AI-Literate Educators and the Evolution of Teaching Practice: A Conceptual Framework for Augmented Teaching (111201)
Session: On Demand
Room: Virtual Video Presentation
Presentation Type:Virtual Presentation
Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to change teaching and learning, moving beyond experimental use into everyday classroom practice, assessment, course design, and student support. Despite growing adoption of AI in education, many teachers lack structured guidance for developing AI-related competencies needed to integrate AI effectively and responsibly into their daily activities.
Using a conceptual analysis of Çelik's Intelligent-TPACK framework and UNESCO's AI Competency Framework for Teachers, this concept paper develops a theoretical model of augmented teaching to guide educators' integration of AI into teaching, assessment, and professional decision-making.
The paper makes the following contributions:
1. Augmented teaching is conceptualized not as the simple addition of AI tools to existing practice, but as the transformation of pedagogical decision-making, assessment, and teacher-student interaction within AI-supported learning environments.
2. The model integrates i-TPACK and AI CFT into a diagnostic framework linking technological knowledge, pedagogical design, content expertise, and ethical practice across fifteen interconnected competency domains.
3. It suggest that AI competencies should be embedded throughout teacher education and professional development rather than treated as isolated technology skills.
The analysis suggests that effective AI integration depends less on advanced technical expertise and more on ethical awareness, critical evaluation, prompt literacy, and responsible classroom implementation. As AI continues to reshape teaching, assessment, and curriculum design, augmented teaching provides a useful lens for understanding how educators can adapt their practice while preserving educational quality, ethical responsibility, and professional judgement within increasingly AI-supported learning environments.
